Basic Information

  • It's the principal river of the southwestern United States and northwest Mexico.
  • The river is 1,450 miles long.
  • It rises in the central Rocky Mountains then flows across the Colorado Plateau
  • Then it reaches Lake Mead on the Arizona-Nevada line then goes south.
  • After entering Mexico, it forms a Delta, emptying into Gulf of California.

SOURCE & MOUTH

  • The Colorado River begins in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado
  • The river ends in the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean.

LENGTH

  • The river is 1,450 miles long.
  • Also known as 2,330 km.

STATES:

  • The Colorado River runs through:
  • Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada,
  • California, Baja California, and Sonora.
  • It goes through the United States and Mexico.

INDUSTRY

  • It is the economic foundation for the western United States.
  • Recently, the river is facing tremendous water loss.
  • Water conservation plans are currently underway.
  • It's supposed to provide water for thousands of city dwellers.
  • Colorado needs it for Agriculture and Mining.

PROBLEMS ITS FACING

  • Recent water samples after a flood show no signs of gas or oil
  • contamination. However, multiple signs of E.Coli have been discovered.
