COLONY TYPE

Maryland is a british colony given a charter by their king because in the British empire all land was he kings, and it was his prerogative to divide

It was founded by lord baltimore and other catholics for religious freedom

THE FOUNDER

Lord baltimore and george calvert were the founders of maryland

SETTELERS

  • Two small ships called the "ark and the dove" brought 140 settlers to Maryland on nov. 22, 1633
  • Types of settlers consisted of roman catholic, and the majority were protestant
  • They arrived in Maryland sometime in 1634
  • Problems the settlers faced on their ships were rats, illnesses, and people against their goals

GOVERNMENT

  • Marylands government is based on a written compact known as the constitution of Maryland.
  • The state had four constitutions, each containing a declaration of rights
  • Maryland welcomed everyone to their colony
  • The relationship between the indians and tne settlers was very nice, they got along just fine.
