Founders A French explorer, Samuel da Champlain, described his discoveries in New York. A year later an Englishman working for the Dutch named Henry Hudson claimed New York, and called in "New Netherlands"
The reason New York was founded They set up colonies for the rich reasorces. In 1664 the colony was surrendered to the British, and it's name was changed to New York
Climate and geography They had hot summers, and cold winters. It was swampy near the coast. Further north were mountains covered in forests. The ground was good for farming but had lots of rocks
Economy Colonist could make money in many ways, they could do fur trapping, lumber trading, shipping, slave trade, and as merchants and tradesmen. Most colonist farmed corn so they could feed animas and people.
