COLOMBIA IS LOCATED IN SOUTH AMERICA

  • Colombia’s population is 47.7 million
  • The area of Colombia is 439,735 mi squared
  • Colombia boarders the Caribbean Sea

COLOMBIA HISTORY

  • In 1982 Gabriel García Márquez was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature
  • In 2000 the U.S. gives Colombia almost one billion dollars to fight drug trafficking
  • In 1991 a new constitution is adopted

Many Colombians have Spanish and native ancestors. A smaller percentage have European, black, and mixed. There is a younger population. A quarter of the population are under 15.

THE COLOMBIAN LIFESTYLE

  • They love soccer. They call it football instead of soccer
  • Religious holidays are very important in Colombia.
  • They don’t believe in Santa Clause. They worship baby Jesus instead.

COLOMBIA CULTURE

  • Soccer is the most liked sport in Colombia
  • Religious holidays are very important
  • They get a week off of school for Easter (The Holy Week)
  • Instead of Santa Clause they celebrate Baby Jesus
  • For Christmas they read 9 prayers

  • The president is Iván Duque
  • For money they use a Colombian peso
  • They are republic
  • For one US dollar you can get 3,183.50 Peso’s
