The U.S. and Russia's relationship after World War II

The U.S. and Russia have not always been hostile towards each other. They had similar enemies, which made them allies. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the two countries did become enemies. One reason, being that Russia had tested a bomb that had killed many people from the U.S., making their relationship very hostile.

The U.S. and Russia's relationship after World War II

The U.S. and Russia have not always been hostile towards each other. They had similar enemies, which made them allies, that is, before the war. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the two countries did become enemies. One reason, being that Russia had tested a bomb which ended the U.S. monopoly on nuclear warfare.

Preparations for Nuclear War and Aftermath

The Americans tried very hard to make sure they had everything they needed, if there was to be a Nuclear War. They had bomb drills, where they practiced what they needed to do in case there was a bomb threat. The Americans skillfully made bomb shelters that would be able to keep the family safe for a long time. They also made sure there was enough food, water, etc. to last a while in case they had to go into the bomb shelters.

Events that heightened tensions between the two countries

There were many events that heightened tensions between the two countries. One of them being that there was a Nazi invasion in Russia, making the U.S. very uneasy. The U.S. didn't want to keep Russia as an ally if they were being overrun. The U.S. thought they were out of control. Another thing was the fact that Russia supported Cuba with their ideas and military. This heightened tensions because the U.S. is so close to Cuba and Cuba has a radical leader, Fidel Castro.

Civil Defense's Role in American Safety

The Civil Defense played a big role in safety for Americans. This program was implemented to protect civilians from the threat of war and aerial bombardment. The Civil Defense helps with preparing the public like drills. They provide emergency services and they also provide crisis management.
