WHERE THEY COME FROM

  • Native to Australia
  • Lives in dry, hot plains

WHAT THEY LIKE TO EAT

  • Vegetables
  • Fruits and berries
  • Grass
  • Seeds, from weeds, bushes and trees
  • NOT citrus like oranges or lemons

HOW TO HANDLE

  • Don't touch a new bird for the first few days
  • Put one finger out and say "Step up"
  • Do not grab the bird, even lightly
  • Do not put hand on head

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT

  • Play with it often
  • When you are gone, have lots of toys
  • Cage needs to be at least 18 by 24 inches
  • Have a playpen outside of the cage

COOL FACTS

  • More likely to talk if fed by hand
  • Can whistle
  • Uses tongue/beak to learn
  • Put the cage in the family room
  • They have nightmares (night frights)
