PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CLOTH DIAPERING 101

ACCORDING TO US
Who is us? A family with a 3 year old son who was cloth diapered until he potty-trained at 25 months and a two month-old baby girl in a small town in the Midwest.

WHY CLOTH DIAPER?

Lots of Reasons.

IT SAVES YOU MONEY

And if you aren't on a budget -- you are doing it wrong. "It" being "life."

$400-600

INITIAL INVESTMENT (ONLY FOR BABY 1)
You can also add cloth diapers to your registry! At around $20 each, they make great gifts.

$1200+

EXPECTED COST SAVINGS OF CLOTH DIAPERING, PER KID
Not to mention all those freak outs -- OMG, we are out of diapers -- run to Wal-Mart at 2 am? I think not.

IT'S GREEN

ONE BABY IN DISPOSABLES UNTIL TWO GENERATES ONE TON OF WASTE
It's up to all of us to reduce waste.

IT'S BETTER FOR BABY

Now that, is a happy baby. Less diaper rash, less skin irritation.

CHEMICALS

ARE CONTAINED IN DISPOSABLES
And, no yucky chemicals. You are so careful during pregnancy with what you eat, and you will be careful about what you feed your baby too. Why make them wear around a pad full of chemicals all day every day for the first two years of their life?

EARLY POTTY TRAINING

SOME SAY | WE ARE CROSSING OUR FINGERS
Toilet training is an important step on the way to increased competence, confidence, and sense of self.

Cloth diapers have a clear advantage over single-use diapers when it comes to toilet training. We believe that babies diapered with cloth tend to toilet train more quickly because they know when they are wet.

AND, THEY LOOK CUTE

The colors are super cute. When they stick out the top of pants, or out from beneath dresses, or just by themselves, they look 100x better than disposables.

WHAT YOU NEED

IS HOW MANY DIAPERS WE HAVE

CLOTH WIPES

THEY GO IN THE WASH WITH EVERYTHING ELSE

DIAPER PAIL

WE JUST USE A TRASH CAN WITH A LID
You put a large wet bag/pail liner inside of it. Like a cloth trash bag.

A DIAPER SPRAYER

MIGHT ALSO COME IN HANDY
Looks like this: http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?products_id=1228.

We don't have one, and we've done just fine.

WET BAGS

WE LIKE PLANET WISE
You need these. They also come in fun colors and patterns.

WET BAGS

We especially like the one in the picture that have both a dry pocket and a "wet" (dirty pocket). You store all your clean diapers in that side pocket and then your dirty ones in the main pocket. All diapers in one place. Easy peasy.

DIRTY DIAPERS

How do you get them clean?

TWICE A WEEK

IS ABOUT HOW OFTEN WE WASH THEM
We didn't see see a real increase in our water bill.

NO

WE DON'T USE A "SERVICE"
There isn't a diaper "service" where we live. You don't need one.

YES

WE PUT THEM IN THE WASHER
Where else do you put things that are dirty? Things with mud? Things with vomit? Other dirty things? In the washer. Because it washes out.

WHAT WORKS FOR US

There are lots of ways people wash cloth diapers. Generally, follow your manufacturer's instructions. If that fails, google "how to wash cloth diapers."

LINE DRY THE COVERS

PUT THE INSERTS IN THE DRYER
We usually do this overnight. They dry really quickly.

Then, you "stuff' the diapers. Place an insert in each of the covers. Diagram here: http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.php.

WE ARE BUSY

AND WE DO IT

YOU CAN DO IT TOO

We know you can.
