ABOUT HER HUSBAND
- Robert Schumann was Clara’s husband
- He was known for piano music, songs, and orchestral music
- He died on July 29,1856

- Her mother was Marianne Wieck
- She died on March10,1872
- She was a pianist, singer, and a piano teacher
ABOUT HER FATHER
- Her father was Friedrich Wieck
- He died on August 27,1921
- He was a pianist and a teacher
- He was opposed to Clara marrying Robert

HER PARENTS’ DIVORCE
- Clara’s father Friedrich was an abusive music teacher and a piano store owner. Her mother Mariane was a singer. Mariane ended up falling in love with a friend of Friedrich’s. When Clara was six, her parents got divorced. Following the divorce, Mariane was forced to give up custody of Clara.

- Friedrich did not want Clara to marry Robert because he thought it would destroy the plans he had for Clara’s music career
- He tried to stop the union in as many ways as he could
- Then he threatened to shoot Robert
