The Frankpledge system is a form of community policing instituted by King Williams in 1066.

SHIRE REEVE AMERICAN SHERIFF

The Night Watch System took place in 1285. In England, the night watch system provided citizens with protection from crime.

In 1326, the shire reeve was replaced with the office of the justice of the peace.

Henry Fielding is the man who created the Bow Street Runners in 1748. The were a group of law enforcement agents who apprehend criminals.

Sir Robert Peel advocated the 12 principles on policing. In 1829, he also led the mandating of a publicly funded police force through England.

Political Era was from 1840 - 1920. It was when the police agencies we're first established to provide a unified law enforcement force in the major American cities.

Professional Era was from 1920-1970. There was a call for the establishment of measures to assist law enforcement agencies to improve their effectiveness and become more professional.

Community Era is from 1970 - the present. This era is advocated for law enforcement to move away from the crime fighting focus for law enforcement towards a greater emphasis on maintaining order and providing service to the community.
