The very first battle of the Civil War to take place
on North soil, (Sharpsburg, Maryland) in which
it was the bloodiest 1 day battle in American History
The Union had victory while Lee withdrew to Virgina

This changes the nature of the war since
the Northern and rebelling territories
slaves were freed

1865- LEE SURRENDERS
Lee surrenders at Appomattox Court
House - brings civil war to a close as
the Confederate forces surrender.
Now these states can back to the US
