CIVIL WAR POEM A

By Steven Polaski

Bang Bang Bang
Gettysburg is hiding out
Many people looking to find,
A safe way out

Photo by Philerooski

Soldiers aching a bed to sleep in,
Generals wanting a win
Many are giving thought to,
When their town returns to normal

How many soldiers lay in despair, you ask?
Well many indeed, but few lay there hoping,
there's a way out for sure
Only the ones who are hopeful make it out in tact

Families at home brace themselves,
Soldiers do the same.
Many want it to end,
Yet some just want a win.

Cannons firing, people dying,
Is this all worth a victory?
Opinions are judged, but lives are risked,
As Generals command a win

Once a small town turned battlefield,
All of Gettysburg evacuates,
They shutter the windows and lock the doors,
As war continues for three days straight.

Each side wants different things,
But only one is for certain,
They both are restless, and hoping is will end.

The Commanding Generals take action,
As their soldiers fight for their lives.
They make preparations, they prepare themselves,
For an end to the bloodiest battle

Gettysburg wants out;
Deserves to get their life back;
Fearing for their lives. But
