Once upon a time there is a family. This family includes a mother, a father, and a daughter, who obtains not only beauty, but kindness. They live in a beautiful home in Louisiana.
One day when the child is very young the mother dies. Not very long after the man marries a woman with two daughters. The new wife and her daughters are selfish and cruel to the girl, but the father never knows.
Later, the father goes on a business trip to sell goods in Atlanta. He asks his daughters what they want him to bring them back. The two stepdaughters ask for silks and jewels, but the kind daughter asks only for the first feather he sees when he arrives.
Time passes and the family finds out that the father has died on his journey. All he has to show of it is a single feather. The stepfamily is not sad about the death, but the daughter runs off, buries the feather, and cries until the feather grows into a tree with feathers for leaves
The family then moves the girl into the farthest room of the house, the attic. They make her work all day and night, so much that she often falls asleep near the fire to stay warm. One day she wakes up covered in cinders from the fire, and the family to calls her "Cinderella."
There is a famous jazz player who is about to inherit the crown of his father's popular business, but first he needs to get married. He sends invitations for a mascarade ball to every house.
When Cinderella's house receives the invitation the stepfamily is ecstatic. Cinderella asks if she could go, but the family tells her that no one would want to see a girl who's hands are as rough as the back of an alligator.
The night of the party Cinderella asks again if she could go, but they say that she has nothing but rags to wear. The family gets dressed in their extreme outfits, and they leave in the carriage.
Cinderella runs out to the tree and begins to cry. Before she knows it the tree steps her up and magically fits her in a beautiful gown made of feathers with a gorgeous mask, and the tree makes a grand carriage too.
When Cinderella gets into the carriage to go to the party she finds a letter. The letter says that she must be home before midnight because that is when the magic wears off. She continues and gets to the party.
They fall in love. Cinderella loses track of time and once her shoes start turning into dirt she knows it is time to get home. As she is running out of the house she drops her mask but continues to run.
As she is running home all of her beautiful clothes turn into the old rags she had been used to wearing. She makes it home, barely before the stepfamily does.
The jazz player determines to find the masked beauty with green eyes. He goes to every house, cabin, shack, and shed in Louisiana in order to find the one he loves.
He finally gets to Cinderella's house. The stepsisters have heard that he is looking for green eyes, so they paint their eyes. The family is gathered with Cinderella serving iced tea. The stepsisters try on the mask, but they are too blinded by the paint to even open their eyes.
All the time Cinderella is looking down not showing her eyes. He asks if she would try on the mask, and the stepmother says that it would be impossible for her to have been there that night. He persists. Cinderella tries on the mask. She is the one he has been looking for.
