BIBINGKA IS A TYPE OF RICE CAKE FROM THE PHILIPPINES TRADITIONALLY

eaten during the Christmas season.

KARE-KARE IS A PHILIPPINE STEW. IT IS MADE FROM A BASE OF STEWED

OXTAIL & VEGTABLES. THE STEW IS FLAVORED WITH PEANUT BUTTER SAUCE

CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

  • THEY MAKE LANTERNS CALLED PAROL SHAPED IN A FIVE POINTED STAR
  • Families, schools and other places also display a creche or nativity scene called belen.
  • The Tagalog word for gift is regalo, but Filipinos have a special word for "Christmas gift" ,pamasko.
  • The Filipino version of Secret Santa is called Monito Monita or Kris Kringle.
  • Mostly Catholics, Filipinos begin a novena (a series of nine masses) on December 16th.
