PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CHRISTMAS IN CUBA

Christmas was banned in Cuba by the country's dictator in 1969, because he wanted people to work on the sugar harvest.

Christmas became unbanned 30 years later in 1998, when the pope came to Havana, Castro agreed to make Christmas a public holiday.

Cubans eat Moros y Cristianos (black beans and rice) and drink Cuban cider, and most importantly lechon asado (roasted pig.)

A January 6 the 3 kings that gave Jesus the gifts come and bring children gifts.

Before Christmas was banned the celebration would last many days and each day a part of the whole Christmas story would be acted out.
