ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
- It has a history of experiencing algal-bloom leaving its ecosystem vulnerable to further damage.
- Also with algal-bloom depleted dissolved oxygen levels arrive as well.
- Hum as are also impacting the health of the Chowan river with agricultural runoff leaving the water high in phosphorus and nitrous.

POPULATION
- 61,548
- The rising population means that there will be a need of higher surplus of food increasing the amount of farmers in which by the process of agricultural runoff the water will be filled with unwanted materials.

RECREATION
- During the summer months there is a lot of recreation going on in the Chowan river. During this, people leave a lot of trash that will get into the water
