the role of the choir:

engagement
number one role: ENGAGEMENT MUSIC. Music must be studied for its own sake as well as for its extra musical values.

A choir's role is to Engage its performers, engage its audiences, and engage our community.

In choir Students
Perform, create, and respond to a variety of rep.

Performance events
positively engage our district with our community, and engage our community members in music.

Students can have oppertunties to improvise and create, engaging them with the technical aspects of music, while also positively engaging them with their peers.

When students respond to music, they are engaging their minds to think analytically and critically while also engaging with the history and culture of the world and its many groups of people.

the need for a Choir:

Opportunities
The bottom line: Missing out on opportunities.

Opp to develop a person's musical potential. I want to Share this quote: I may not be the best, but I will be the best that I can be. How could we deny a student the opp to be the best that they can be? Imagine if their potential for success lies in singing, and they just haven't discovered it yet.

Obviously there is more to life than mainstream success. but consider this another opp for students to reach their full potential.

opp for creativity and self expression. Outlets for frustration, angst, and stress are so, so vital our teenagers and young adults.
they Experience so much change and upset(some more than others) during this period of life.. What if we had an Opp to create a safe space to where it is okay to feel vulnerable, where it is okay to be passionate, where students begin to understand the pain, loss, tragedy, healing, jubilation, and triumph of others? What if I told you we could do that for our students through vocal music. A study of musical theory shows us WHY certain pitch groups make us feel uplifted, tense, or inspired. If you want to know more about these kinds of affects,
I highly recommend the TED Talk :The Transformative Power of Music.

History and Tradition

I've previously mentioned how engagement in music connects with history and cultures of the world, but I'd like to go into more depth about the rich history vocal music has in our world.
Before there were instruments, people had voices. As unique cultures developed across the continents, one thing stands out to unify them. Music. almost every early people culture has utilized music for religious ceremonies, communication, and storytelling or history keeping.
As people moved about the world sharing goods and ideas, they also shared music, creating new traditions and genres. Choral music can tap into almost every vocal tradition around the world, culturally transporting our students and audiences to places and eras they may have only ever read about.

Today's Society

I want you
Think of all of the times you encounter music throughout your day:
alarm clock?
in car?
on hold for a call?
elevator and shopping mall music?
religious service?
advertisments?
movie soundtracks?
sporting events?
studying?

Music is an ever present factor in our students lives. Imagine the experience if our students could immerse themselves into the understanding of creating and performing music.

Having a choir provides our students an opportunity to disconnect from their social media, and reconnect with their peers. Choir enables students to learn self-discipline, teamwork, develop listening skills, and creative problem solving. Choir is a group effort requiring All students must remain actively engaged at the group's task at hand. These are identified as the non-musical benefits of music education.

Personal testimonial

Music was always present in my life.
When my life changed, or was disrupted, music was there as a constant.
I was always good at school, but my music classes kept me engaged in school. I have and always will be excited about studying music. It helps me fall asleep at night, Its what makes me want to get out of bed in the morning. Its what helps me work through tough times, it moves me to dance. Its what helps me feel connected with my community, my history, and the world. I feel a deep conviction to share the same engagement that my music educators offered me. And that is why I must urge to begin a Choral program at this district.
