KNIGHT CODE OF CHIVALRY

  • They had to demonstrate a strong religious faith and willingness to to defend the Catholic Church.
  • Knights were supposed to fight against injustice and show courage in every battle they fought.

ARMOUR/EQUIPMENT OF KNIGHTS

  • Helmet with air holes for breathng
  • Body armor for protection
  • Flexible gloves for sword handling.
  • Most armor was chain mail or metal
  • The average suit weighed up to 65 pounds!

STEPS TO BECOMING A KNIGHT

  • At first, the knights started off as pages at age 7.
  • After a page, the next step was a squire. Squires stayed as squires for about 5-6 years.
  • If a squire has proven his bravery and skill at battle, he would become a knight at the age of 21.
  • When a squire became a knight he would hold a "dubbing" ceremony.

LIFE OF A SQUIRE

  • Squires must complete all lessons asked of them.
  • Squires must teach pages.
  • Continued training in battle.
  • Squires went into battle with the knight and fought at his side.

  • Code of Chivalry
  • Rules of Heraldry
  • Horsemanship
  • Use of weapons - Swordsmanship and marksmanship
  • Developed high strength, speed, dexterity, and leadership

  • Must also learn bravery
  • Courtly etiquette
  • Jousting
  • Dancing
