  • Buddhism was founded by Siddharth Gautama also know as Buddha
  • Buddhism began in India.
  • Buddha left his castle and went into the city and expirenced pain,
  • Suffering, grief and sickness.

Origins

  • Buddhism began in India and incorporated Hinduism
  • into much of Buddhist practice.

Principles and beliefs

  • A quote that Buddhist believe in by Siddharth Gautama is,
  • "Desire is the cause of suffering, an order to end desire is to end suffering"
  • Buddhist teach reincarnation, they do not see it a "rebirth."
  • The core of Buddhism beliefs are based of the Four Noble Truths and they
  • also believe in the Eightfold Path.

Diffusion

  • Buddhism started on ancient India.
  • It spread through south east Asia and east Asia.
  • A lot of this spreading happened under the Maurya Empire.
  • Much of Buddhist teaching was mixed into Islam.

  • The founder of Confucianism was Kung-Tzu.
  • Kung-Tzu was a Chinese teacher, politician and philosopher.
  • Kung- Tzu was also know as Confucius.

Origins

  • Confucianism was founded in China
  • during the Zhou (Chou) dynasty.

Principles and beliefs

  • Confucianism isn't a religion but more of
  • an ethnical code.
  • Confucianism is dealing with moral character,society and government.
  • Confucianism has primary goals of harmony, peace and
  • happiness on earth.

Principles and Beliefs

  • The most important principles were seen in various relationships.
  • There are 5 relationships ; 1: parent and child, 2: husband/wife
  • 3: elders sibling younger sibling, 4: elder friend younger friend
  • And 5: ruler and subjects.
  • These relationships all have standards that they strive to live up to.

Diffusion

  • These philosophy's were spread to Korea and Japan
  • after Confucius died.

  • The founder was Lao-Tse.
  • Lao-Tse was a philosopher in ancient china.
  • He was best know for being the author of
  • Tao- te- Ching.

  • Taoism grew from ancient Chinese philosophies
  • that merged into one basic teaching.
  • Taoism began in China.

  • "Tao" means " the way or path."
  • Taoism is a series of philosophical teachings that focus on
  • balance and universal harmony and in ones life.
  • Taoism places a great importance on nature as and example of balance .

  • "Effortless doing" is when a persons actions are in harmony
  • with everything around them.
  • There is a symbol that is most associated with Taoism is the Yin/Yang.
  • The Yin/Yang symbolizes the ideas of harmony and balance.
