China's one child policy

Information

  • It was first introduced in 1779
  • It was introduced by Deng Xiaoping
  • The number of twins born had doubled
  • By 2020 there will be 30M more men than women

Why was it created?

  • It was created to control the population
  • There wasn't enough food to feed everyone
  • Not enough room to build houses
  • Not enough jobs

How was the policy enforced?

  • People would get fined
  • Their belongings will be confiscated

Was it a success?

  • Yes it was.
  • It reduced the population by 400M

Is it still in place?

  • Yes it's still in place
  • However China eased the policy in late 2013
  • If 1 parent is an only child, they can have another baby

Was it a good idea?

  • It was a good idea because it worked
  • But too many abortions and deaths took place
  • Which lead to gender unbalance

Advantages

  • Reduced the population by 400M
  • More space 
  • Less pollution
  • Enough food to eat

  • Killing of innocent girls(babies)
  • Aging population due to less babies
  • Forced to have abortions
  • Second child will be treated unfairly
