GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

6-12 MONTHS OF AGE

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Sit without support
  • Rolling over, crawling and possibly walking
  • By 7 months most children will have full colour vision
  • Can also see objects at a distance more clearly

EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Understands the meaning of "no"
  • Maybe shy or anxious with strangers
  • 10 months self-esteem begins to develop
  • Smiles and kisses own image in the mirror

MORAL DEVELOPMENT
-Babies are amoral meaning that they do not understand right from wrong
-Through social learning experiences learned over years that children understand moral
-Babies can show empathy for each other, for example If a baby is crying other babies will cry aswell

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
-Have mastered "dada", "mumum" then will shout out to call their parents
-Will ask for toys by pointing to it
-Shyness or fear of strangers

INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT
-Musical toys will continue to interest them and try to sing
-Understand some words
-Be able to say a few words and know the meaning
