FACTS OF CHILD LABOR

  • Children started working in 1769
  • Most children were orphans
  • A law passed that set the age to 9 years old
  • A law was passed to make the max amount of hours for children and women 10 hours.

  • In cotton textile industries, 54.5 % were under the age of 19
  • 4,000 children worked in the mills of Manchester
  • In mining industries, child labor ranged from 19-40%
  • Child labor was cheap

  • Children had poor, harsh conditions to work in
  • Most children that worked were under ten
  • Children would work massive amount of hours just for a shilling, 10-14 hours

  • If the children were late they were whipped
  • When they worked, they breathed in deadly toxins
  • The oddest children that worked were 21
