PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MOLTEN ROCK

  • Composed of silicon and oxygen
  • Molecules stick together to form long chains
  • Have a slower viscosity
  • The amount of melting is limited by the heat available
  • Temperature is 700 to 1,200 °C (1,292 to 2,192 °F)

MOLTEN ROCK CONTINUED

  • Higher temps have a lower density
  • Higher pressures cause higher density
  • Magma underground and lava when it reaches the top

BUBBLES

  • molecule is placed so that its polar (hydrophilic) head faces the water
  • hydrophobic hydrocarbon tail extends away from the water layer.
  • contains a carboxylate group that reacts with calcium and magnesium ions
  • C3H5(OH)3 slows down evaporation of the bubbles
  • Color comes from light reflecting off the front and back surfaces of the thin soap film.

BUBBLES CONTINUED

  • Spheres in many different sizes
  • Used to mixanimal fats with ashes and boiling the mixture down
  • fatty acids react with the alkali carbonates contained in the ash.

ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL

  • Freezing point is -89.5C
  • Boiling point is 82.4C
  • Has no color
  • Odor like rubbing alcohol
  • Flammable

ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL CONTINUED

  • Molecular Weight is 60.09
  • Insoluble in salt solutions
  • Has a bitter taste

URINE

  • Usually a yellow color but can vary
  • Different smells, provide health information
  • The pH of normal urine is generally in the range 4.6 - 8
  • Composed of 96% water
  • urea and sodium chloride is also composed in it

URINE CONTINUED

  • Density is 1.002
  • Too much water to beflammable
  • Boiling point is 99.97C same as water
