  • The purpose of the camp was- a killing center
  • What were types of prisoners?- Polish people with disabilities,
  • Polish prisoners, Soviet prisoners, and 5,000 Roma Gypsies,

The Camp

  • When was it made? Started the murders on December 8, 1941.
  • Who was in charge? SS General Wilhelm Koppe was in charge.
  • Where was it located? The village of Chelmno (Germany),
  • is located about 30 miles northwest of Lodz along the Ner River,
  • a tributary of the Warta River in today’s west central Poland.

The camp

  • The village of Chelmno (Germany) Under German occupation in World War II,
  • was located in the Wartheland administrative unit (seat Poznan/Posen).
  • The camp was built in 1940, designed and built specifically for a death camp.
  • Germans abandoned the center on January 17 1945 as the soviet army approached.

  • Were there any escapes? 7 Jews; all worked in.

  • ️The camp killed people in gas vans. 50-70 at a time.
  • He would pick the jewish people up and pack the van full,
  • and in 10 minutes, they would all be dead
