Charles Darwin set sail the HMS Beagle on December 27, 1831. Darwin had 73 other men abroad the ship.It landed near Maderia Island on January 4, 1832.Two days later the Beagle arrived at the port of Santa Cruz at Tenerife Island. The ship arrived at Cape Verde Islands on January 16. He made observations about a cuttle-fish that surrounded the tide pools around the island
