3 GUIDELINES

  • Communicate, don't motivate
  • Report achievement separately from other factors
  • Reflect only CURRENT level of achievement

SUMMARIZE INFORMATION

  • Discard inaccurate or outdated assessment data
  • Convert all entries to a common scale
  • Weight information
  • Combine information thoughtfully

CONVERTING RUBRIC SCORES TO GRADES

  • Rubrics for summative assessments MUST be quality (ch 7)
  • Do not use the 5 points of rubric as the scale: these numbers are labels, NOT numbers

STEPS IN REPORT GRADING

  • List the learning targets you will assess
  • Make an assessment plan including both summarize AND formative
  • Create, choose, modify assessments
  • Record information from assessments as you give them
  • Summarize achievement information into one score
  • Translate the score into the appropriate report card symbol
