PLOT EVENTS

  • Aunt Alexandra shows up at their door
  • Kids shocked because they did not expect her to come
  • She says she is going to stay for a while(God knows what she means by a while)

PLOT EVENTS

  • Alexandra will have a feminine influence on them
  • Atticus asks for the children's approval of her staying
  • Aunt Alexrandra is known in town and people bake cakes for her
  • Alexandra fit in like she was already staying at their house

PLOT EVENTS

  • Alex joined the Maycomb Amanuensis Club
  • Alexandra notices that this generation of the finches broken its "streak"
  • It is the first time in the family line where the Finches never married their cousins

PLOT EVENTS

  • It is common to marry family members
  • Not a lot of people leave and not a lot of people settle
  • Aunt Alexandra sends Atticus to talk to the kids about how they have to live up to their name
  • Scout then cries on Atticus and can hear his stomach growling

QUOTES ABOUT THE CHAPTER

  • "Well, your father and I decided it was time I came to stay with you for a while"(169). This is Alexandra moving into the Finche's house.
  • "...it would be best for you to have some feminine influence"(170). She wants Scout to be less of a tomboy and more of an actual girl.

  • "...the same families married the same families until the members of the community looked faintly alike"(175).Not a lot of people leave/marry the same family from generation to generation.
