11.2 LAUNCHING THE NEW GOVERNMENT

  • Inauguration is the party when the president takes office
  • Washington wanted to be called Mr. President
  • Executive branch needed departments to help president
  • Those departments are known as the Cabinet

  • The new country needed money...bad
  • Congress decided to tax luxuries, like whiskey
  • Farmers were upset because they sold whiskey
  • Washington and Hamilton sent troops to squash rebellion
  • Country was split whether to support French Revolution or not

11.6 PRESIDENCY OF JOHN ADAMS

  • Adams was president, Jefferson was VP. They were enemies.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts were laws that made it harder to immigrate
  • or stay as an immigrant in the U.S. It also made sedition illegal
  • Sedition is encouraging rebellion against the government
  • Virginia and Kentucky made laws opposite of A&S acts

  • Adams/Pickney vs. Jefferson/Burr

  • House of Representatives decided the tie
