What got him involved

  • Growing up on a farm, Chavez realized how unfair everything was.
  • Workers not being paid, living in shacks, and having no medical aid.
  • When Chavez got older, he dedicated his life towards the rights of farmers.
  • He organized them into the National Farm Workers Association.
  • That later became United Farm Workers.

What Chavez did to get there

  • Chavez went through marches, riots, and strikes to help the farmers.
  • After going through this, he organized it where farmers had wages.
  • He also provided other benefits for the farmers like medical assistance.

Promoting Non Violence

  • In 1968 Chavez fasted for 25 days to promote non violence.
  • In 1970 Chavez began a fast of  "thanksgiving and hope" for the workers.
  • In 1972 he fasted when Arizona prohibited strikes and boycotts.
  • This law was to prevent strikes during harvest season.

In conclusion, Cesar Chavez was a champion when it came to Human Rights. He did a lot to help out farmers, and get them what they deserve. To let him know that he did a lot for a lot of people, he was awarded him the Presidential Award of Freedom.
