CENTRIOLE STRUCTURE

  • Cylindrical shaped
  • Made up of groups of microcells
  • Arranged at right angles from each other

CENTRIOLE FUNCTION

  • Plays major role in cell division
  • Certain animal cells and plant cells dont need a centriole
  • Absence of centrioles can cause divisional errors
  • They're cell refinement which makes mitosis efficent and less error prone

DISCOVERY

  • Contributes to many human diseases
  • Discovered by Edouard Van Beneden in 1833
  • Later described and names by Theodor Boveri in 1888

PLANT, ANIMAL, OR BOTH?

  • There found in only animals plant cells can divide without it
