CELLULITIS

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

  • The bacteria enters the skin
  • This causes infection that then causes signs and symptoms
  • Complications can occur if the bacteria enters the bloodstream

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

  • Erythmea
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Warmth

TREATMENT

  • Antibiotics
  • Drain tube
  • ** sometimes you only need to drain
  • The wound, not all need to be treated with antibiotics **

NURSING CONSIDERATIONS

  • Drain tube
  • Analgesia
  • Assistance with ADL's

NURSING DIAGNOSIS

  • Pain related to the process of disease
  • Possibility of breakdown of the skins integrity
  • Drain tube and wound dressing
  • Prevent infection

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Analgesic as required
  • Aseptic technique for wound dressing
  • Preventative measures to prevent scratching/itching

EVALUATION

  • Pain relief obtained
  • Infection prevented
  • Drain tube draining well
  • Skin intach and healing well
