PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CELLULITIS

INFLAMMATION OF THE CELLS

SYMPTOMS

  • Cellulitis can cause inflammation of the skin.
  • It causes redness, swelling, itchiness, and soreness.
  • Cellulitis spreads quickly in people infected with it.
  • It can also cause fever.
  • If Cellulitis is not treated, it spreads rapidly across the body, as well as potentially inflicting Blood Poisoning, necrotizing fasciitis, and heart-valve infection!

CAUSES

  • Cellulitis is a common affliction, spread from person to person by skin contact.
  • It is most commonly spread by skin-to-skin contact
  • It can also be spread through contact with infected surfaces, especially if the surface is wet.

DIAGNOSIS

  • Cellulitis, despite being rather common, can also easily be mistaken for other diseases.
  • For example, the red, tender rash of Cellulitis could be mistaken for a blood clot under the skin.
  • Frequently, though, Cellulitis is easily diagnosed once initial tests are performed.
  • Doctors will typically feel the area, as well as take patient temperature and occasionally take tissue samples.
  • Once Cellulitis is diagnosed, it is easily treated!

TREATMENT

  • Cellulitis can be treated by standard antibiotics.
  • Typically, the patient will be prescribed antibiotics.
  • Such antibiotics include Penicillin, flucloxacillin, and dicloxacillin.
