• Prepares for division.
• Divides into 2 new cells (daughter cells)

Stage 1
Interphase
Cell grows, replicates DNA, produces structures it uses to divide.

Stage 2
Mitosis
Cell's nucleus divides and distributes one copy of DNA in each daughter cell.
Mitosis has four stages.
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase

Stage 3
Cytokinesis
Cytoplasm divides, organelles distributed to each daughter cell.
In plants, cell plate forms between 2 new nuclei.
