CELL ANALOGY

A cell is like a concert

The Nucleus is like the "booth"

  • The nucleus controls what goes on in the cell
  • The "booth controls light and sound during a show

the nuclear envelope is like the doors to the booth

  • Nuclear envelope allows material to move in and out of nucleus
  • Booth doors allow different directors in and out for shows

THE CELL WALL IS LIKE THE VENUE

  • The cell wall gives structure and an outer layer
  • The venue is the outer walls to the concert

The plasma membrane is like security

  • The membrane surrounds the cell and is selective
  • Security surrounds the concert and is selective

The cytoplasm are like fans

  • Cytoplasm are outside the nucleus but keep the cell alive
  • Fans keep the concert going outside of the "booth"

the ribosome is like the band

  • Consists of RNA & protein
  • Found throughout cytoplasm in a cell
  • Protein synthesis-More fans are made
  • Bands have band members(RNA&protein)
  • Different fans for each band (cytoplasm)

THE CYTOSKELETON is like the manager

  • Cytoskeleton controls shape, internal organization, and movement

The vacuole is like the merch table

  • vacuole stores water, salts, proteins, carbs
  • the merch table stores t-shirts, keychains, etc.

The vesicle is like the merch guy

  • Vesicles moves materials between organelles
  • Also moves materials outside of cell
  • Merch guy moves band supplies and sells them
  • Happens inside and outside of concert

the chloroplast is like concert food

  • Chloroplast captures energy from sun
  • Makes useful chemical energy
  • Concert food gives people energy to keep concert pumped
