CAUSES OF CELIAC DISEASE

  • Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye.
  • Some people that are exposed to gluten in their diet,
  • an enzyme called tissue transglutaminase changes the gluten into a chemical that
  • Causes An Immune response, leading to inflammation of the lining of the small intestine

PREVENTION

  • Celiac disease can't be prevented.
  • If you already have celiac disease, you can prevent symptoms
  • and damage to your small intestine by eating a gluten-free diet.

SYMPTOMS- ADULTS

  • The classic signs are diarrhea and weight loss
  • Amenia
  • Lost of bone density or softening of bone
  • Itchy, blistery skin rash
  • Damage to dental enamel

  • Headaches and fatigue
  • Nervous system injury
  • Joint pain
  • Reduced functioning of the spleen
  • Acid reflex and heartburn

SYMPTOMS- INFANTS

  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Swollen belly
  • Pain
  • Failure to thrive or weight loss

SYMPTOMS- CHILDREN

  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Short stature
  • Delayed puberty
  • Neurologic symptoms

TREATMENT

  • A gluten-free diet is essential, and the only
  • treatment for managing celiac disease
  • If your nutritional deficiencies are severe, you
  • may need vitamin and mineral supplements
