BACKROUND: START OF WWII

  • Adolf Hitler wanted more land especially in the east
  • Germany evolved Austria and Czechoslovakia without starting a war
  • Germany moved further east by invading Poland
  • Great Britain and France declared war on Germany

THE EVENT: INVADING COUNTRIES

  • The Soviets invaded Poland from the east
  • Germany and it's Axis partners invade the Soviet Union
  • Germany and it's Axis partners invade Yugoslavia
  • Italy invades Greece

THE EVENT: THE AXIS

  • Germany forms the alliance called the Axis
  • Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the tripartite pact.
  • Bulgaria Joins the Axis
  • Hungary Joins the Axis

THE EVENT: USA

  • Japan bombs Pearl Harbor
  • The USA declares war on Japan
  • Nazi Germany and the axis declare war on the USA
  • British and USA troops land on Normandy beach

THE EVENT: THE ALLIES

  • The allies were formed after the Axis
  • Great Britain, China, and France formed the allies
  • The USA and the Soviet Union Joined in 1941
  • France was not part of the Allies from 1940-1944

DEATHS

  • 50-70 million
  • Germany's overall total was 7.4 million
  • Roughly 8.7 million soviet soldiers
  • Around 760,000 British overall deaths
  • Around 416,000 USA military deaths

OUTCOME

  • Peace treaties were set up
  • Different countries got parts of Germany
  • Nazi leaders were arrested
  • The United Nations were formed Just after the war
  • Prevent such a conflict to happen again.
