Militarism

• Militarism is when a country has and is controlled by a strong military force.
• This was a cause of WW1 because each country having a large military caused more tension between countries.

Alliances

• An alliance is an agreement between two groups with a common goal
• This was a cause of WW1 because when one country declared war on another, the allies of the second would declare war on the first one, leading to the war spiraling out of control.

Imperialism

• Imperialism is when a country takes over land and gains influence over a wide area.
• This was a cause of WW1 because countries competing over land led to increased tensions.

Nationalism

• Nationalism is a person's belief that their country is the best in the world.
• This was a cause of WW1 because each country thinking that it is the best led to more tension between countries.

• The trigger of WW1 was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
