LIFE AND DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN PERSON
We can work against war by resolving conflicts peacefully. Every single person is precious because we are all made in God's image. The dignity of each person is the foundation of our society.
Genesis 1:27
God created mankind in his image; in the image of God created them; male and female he created them.
CALL TO FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND PARTICIPATION
The way we organize our society affects the way we grow. We are called to look for and do the common good. It is our duty to take part in the community and find the well-being of our society.
1Peter 4:9-10
Be hospitable to one another without complaining. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace.
RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Each person has basic rights and deserves dignity. We all have responsibilities of taking care of ourselves and our families. Everyone has the right to live.
"Every civil right rests on the recognition of the first and fundamental right, that of life, which is not subordinate to any condition, be it quantitative, economic or, least of all, ideological." -Pope Francis (4/11/14)
OPTION FOR THE POOR AND VULNERABLE
We must put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. We should always try our best to defend the rights of all people, especially the poor. People that are fortunate should use their power to help those who are poor and help them become participants of society.
"In imitation of our Master, we Christians are called to confront the poverty of our brothers and sisters, to touch it, to make it our own and to take practical steps to alleviate it." -Pope Francis (12/26/13)
DIGNITY OF WORK AND THE RIGHTS OF WORKERS
Everyone has the right to work. People should be able to work for their family and community. Productive work, wages, and property must be equal and fair.
Deuteronomy 24:15
On each day you shall pay the servant’s wages before the sun goes down, since the servant is poor and is counting on them. Otherwise the servant will cry to the Lord against you, and you will be held guilty.
When we love our neighbors we are promoting peace. Race and ethnicity do not separate us, therefore we are one human family. The Gospel teaches us to be peacemakers and to be just.
Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
When we live in faith we must respect all creation. It is our responsibility to protect the Earth for future generations. We can show respect for our Creator by taking care of the environment.
Genesis 2:15
The Lord God then took the man and settled him in the Garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it.
