WHAT IS CAS?

Creativity=Involves the arts & creative thinking

Action = Physical exertion

Service = unpaid volunteer work that has
learning benefit.

Experiences should be done weekly. This is designed to be a lifestyle

Reflections are designed to help you become more aware and purposeful.

WHY CAS?

  • Because it is required to get your IB Diploma
  • You will have a better resume

WHAT Counts?

CAS lasts for 18 months

Nothing counts prior to the first week of your junior year.

Experiences continue during the summer of your junior & senior year.

WHAT Doesn't COUNTS

What did you do?

ACTIVITY

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY DOING?
What are you doing?
-Clubs (Model UN, I Dare To Be, NHS, etc.)
-Sports
-Theater/Band/Choir

We want to honor what you are doing anyway.

Is it Creativity, Activity, or Service? Or a
combination?

GOAL & PLANS

HOW DOES THIS WORK?
Setting a goal means deciding what you want to accomplish.

Plans: What steps do you need to take to successfully accomplish your goal? Try to keep it simple - set 3 to 5.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Change can happen - No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

Brainstorming

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO DO?
During the next 18 months, what else what you like to do?

It's all about balance:
-If you are doing a lot of activity, what kind of
creativity have you always wanted to try?
-CAS is your excuse to try things you haven't
done before.
-Possibilities: Get with friends, teach them a
dance and go perform it at an elementary
school (creativity, action, & service)

Reflections

Think: What did I plan to do? What did I
actually do?

Ask: How did I feel? What did I perceive? What
did I think about the activity? That did the
activity mean to me? What was the value of
the activity? What I learn from the activity?
