TYPES OF ROCKS

Caroline and Oscar

METAMORPHIC

  • Metamorphic rocks form under high heat and pressure
  • It may cause the minerals crystals to change.
  • Metamorphic rocks are usually hard
  • The heat and pressure cause the particles to form layer
  • Metamorphic rocks can form from all kinds of rocks

SEDIMENTARY

  • Sedimentary rocks form when layers of sediments settle on top of one another and harden.
  • Sediments are made up of soil, shells, bits of rocks and the remains of dead plants and animal matter
  • Water, wind, ice and gravity move sediments from one place to another
  • Over time sediments settle in layers on land or on the bottom of the oceans, rivers, and lakes.
  • Newer layers press the older layers together

IGNEOUS

  • Igneous rocks form from molten rock.
  • Igneous comes from a Latin word that means "fire"
  • Igneous rocks may form above or below earths surface
  • Once it's on earths surface the lava cools quickly
  • It may harden into solid igneous rocks in just a few days

Our favorite rock is igneous because they come from volcanoes.
