They did not develop or spread Ideas quickly
The geography varied from island to island.
The palms trees served as an important building material.

Pre- Colombian Lifestyle
A major tribe was the Taino.
They inhabited what is modern day Haiti, Jamaica,
Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico

They migrated, like the Caribs from South America.
The Taino were an advanced Native civiliazation
They developed shifting agriculture
Their most important crops were cassava and yams.
They also grew corn, peppers, squash, tobacco and peanuts.

The Taino's were fisherman and hunters, they ate fish and shellfish.
They ate lizards, birds and other small mammals.
The natives domesticated animals such as parrots and dogs.
They had a complex social structure.
This included chiefs, sub-chiefs, nobles, commoners and slaves.

Post- Colombian lifestyle
The natives were over looked by the
conquering countries.
The Europeans introduced many new things to
native people.
The tribes were resilient and adapted.

POST COLOMBIAN LIFESTYLE
The natives learned to use horses and livestock to their advatage.
The Europeans flourished during the this time but the natives did not.
The Taino population went from close to 2 million to only around 2 thousand.
This was due to sickness and disease spread from the Europeans.
