CAREERS IN SOCIOLOGY

I.)Career: Human resources (HR).
A career in human resources is promising and assuring sense many promotions and great job security is available. I have a very good perception of most people, which is definitely something a human resources worker needs. With a job in this field helping someone is the mane objective. Knowing that you helped someone with their business, benefits, etc, is really gratifying.

II.) History of The Career
HR is a product of the human relations movement of the early 20th century, when researchers began documenting ways of creating business increase through the management of the workforce. The function was initially dominated by transactional work like payroll and benefits administration. HR as of 2015 focuses on strategic initiatives like mergers and acquisitions, talent management, succession planning, industrial and labor relations, and diversity and inclusion.

2)This career doesn't need a degree, but In order to be promoted you need to have gotten at least an associates degree in Human Resources. With and without a degree you will first be positioned as Human Resources Assistant; but without a degree you are limited to this position. From here comes HR Generalist, HR Generalist and Employee Development Coordinator, HR Manager, HR Manager of Human Resources and Administration, HR Director, HR Vice President, and finally HR Vice President of Global Human Resources or HR Vice President of Talent Acquisition, Management, and Development.

3)Human Resources main environment for clients is Low income and business communities. Human Resources objective is to help the community. They deal with families applying for assistance and business's getting help with everything from security, to hiring, to compensation.

IIII.) Duties of This Career
1)General Duties-Develops policy and directs and coordinates human resources activities like employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services.
2) Specific Duties- Analyzes wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plan, Writes directives advising department managers of Company policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits. Consults legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law, Recruits, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions. ...

IIII.) Duties of This Career (continued.)
2)...Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals, Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting. Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations,promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
3) Hours Required- 40+ hour week
4)The work schedule is as expected, daytime work and no work on Holidays; but employes can stay in the office as long as needed to get required work done.

V.) Qualifications of Workers in The Field
1) any gender
2) any age, as long as you have a high school diploma/GED
3) should be in relatively good health for public appearances and traveling.
4) The "ENFJ" personality is best for the job. It's an acronym that stands for "extraversion, intuition, feeling and judging."
5) no experience is needed, but experience with working with lots of clients and the public is helpful.

6) The aptitude needed is to have great social skills to be able to talk easily to clients.
7) High school diploma/GED or more.
8) the most common way to enter this career field is going to college to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services. Doing this promises promotions and improvement in the job force leading to a happier career and financial stability.

VI.) Education Planning
1) I will take sociology and psychology. I will go out and talk to people more than I do to build up lasting social skills I can carry with me into my career. I will also apply to universities to obtain a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resources.
2) I will apply for as many local and university scholarships I qualify for.

X.) Career Advancement
1) chances of advancement are great, if you had obtained an Associates degree or higher in Human Resources. (See III)
2) Advancement requires additional training. If you had not gotten an Associates degree or higher then you will need to do so.
A) advancement would require the change of your duties. (See III).
B) a better of an education you obtain, the better possibility of advancement. So if you plan on continuing or starting your education the better odds of advancement there is.

XI.) Reflection
I will not be choosing this career. I'm not a person to sit a desk all day, I want to be up and moving. Human Resource jobs are mostly sitting at a desk filing out paperwork or sitting at a desk talking with clients; that's just not me. I want to help people, but in a more interactive way.
