ATHLETIC TRAINING

Purpose

  • Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who collaborate
  • with physicians to provide preventative services and emergency care
  • is to provide a safe environment for the athletes and
  • help them heal properly if and when they do get injured.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1st aid and injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation
  • making physician referral
  • file all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and or incidents
  • maintain a daily treatment log

JOB OUTLOOK

  • predicted to gain a 30 percent increase
  • from 2010-2020
  • due to the growing concern on how injuries can effect the young athletes
  • increase because off concern on how injuries can effect athletes later in life
  • also be due to particular interest in sports for children and the elderly.

difficulties and challenges

  • Under pressure by the coaches athletes and the athletes guardians
  • The return to play decisons
  • Trainer does not feel that is safe, he will not allow athlete to return
  • Proper treatment to return to play safely

education and training

  • Bachelor or masters degree that employers require
  • Must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum
  • Require certification from The Board of Certification Inc
  • Licensing with qualifications that vary by state
  • Complete an accredited program and pass an exam.

training program

  • University of Virginia master program in athletic training
  • post professional masters program
  • provide advanced instruction and clinical and research experiences
  • accredited since 1975
  • Full time students only and 13 months in duration

significance of job

  • Provide a safe environment for the athletes and help them heal properly
  • Athletes would not be healed and returned play safely
  • Professional athletes would not be to full potential
