THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

  • The united states grew to become a succesful capitalist nation.
  • On July 4 the U.S became an independent nation.

THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO

  • Karl Marx published a book called the Communist Manifesto.
  • He wrote ideas about the evils of capitalism.
  • Karl and Friedrich Engels brought out the ideas of communism and
  • socialism

ADAM SMITH

  • Adam Smith wrote a book called The Wealth of Nations.
  • He talked about the "invisible hand" that guides the economy
  • and promotes general welfare.
  • His other book called Laissez-faire Theory stated that government should have
  • a limited role in the society.

CANADA

  • Canada was declared a sovereign state in 1867.
  • They later started to work on social characteristics like
  • free healthcare, high taxes, etc.

SOCIALIST PARTY OF AMERICA

  • The socialist party was formed to institute social ideas
  • in 1901.
  • The were later disbanded in 2008

LENIN

  • The soviet union became a one-party Communist country when
  • Lenin died in 1924.
  • They were in control of the country's political, economic, and social affairs.

THE COLD WAR

  • The cold war started right after world war II between the
  • U.S and the USSR.
  • It was a war between communism and capitalism/democracy.
  • In the end, the U.S spread capitalism/democracy, and the USSR spread
  • communism.

COMMUNIST CHINA

  • Mao Zedong led a revolution in China a institutes his version of
  • command economy, in 1949.
  • He then successfully turned China into a Communist state.
  • This made farmers more essential than workers.

VENEZUELA

  • When Hugo Chávez gained power, Venezuela became a socialist nation.
  • He instituted extensive social programs, and the country still has
  • private ownership.

OBAMACARE

  • Obamacare has traces of social idealism which is
  • found in socialist nations.
  • President Obama signed Obamacare in March 2010.
