CAPE SUNDEW

The cape sundew is native to South Africa.

HABITAT

They prefer moist habitats such as marshes.

PREY

They will eat any insect that stumbles into its sticky curling trap.

They have nectar glands that produce nectar that is sweet smelling, sticky, and poisonous.

Its nectar glands also produce enzymes to break down prey but can digest it over a course of a few weeks.

FUN FACT #1

The assassin bug is immune to the poison so it eats the dead prey stuck on the plant.

Cape sundews can live for up to 50 years!
