CANADIAN SHIELD

The Canadian Shield is a large geographic area in eastern and central canada composed of bedrock dating to the precambrain era.

Geological Shield is an area covered with metamorphic rocks and a thin layer of soil that forms the nucleus of the North American or Laurention Craton.

The Canadian Shield is also called the Laurention Plateau or Bouclier Canadien(french). The Canadian Shield was formed over 2 billion years ago.

The Canadian Shield is mostly composed of igneous rock which relates to its long volcanic history.

The Canadian Shield covers most of Greenland, Nunavut, Ontario and Quebec.

The landscape of the Canadian Shield is mostly grass, bog (swamp), rocky with low mountain ranges with a few forests in the far North.

Birch, aspen, tamarock, black and white spruce, hemlock, pine and balsam trees.
