ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Full time, relevant and related to discipline
  • Paid
  • Number of experiences is no less than 30% of the time of the total academic program
  • Learning is supervised and assessed
  • There is reflection on the learning

Internships are paid

  • Co-ops receive an average of $2800 Can. per month
  • National front means no undercutting & paid internships are the norm
  • Paying interns changes the WIL experience
  • Employers expect value for money
  • Interns get challenging projects leading to stronger skill development, confidence, etc.

Geographic Location

  • Larger programs have students working all over the country and internationally as well because they cannot all be absorbed in the local labour market
  • At UVIC only 45% of the 3200 students were working in the Victoria area
  • Paid internships help cover costs of living away from home
