PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE CAMBRIAN PERIOD

OXYGEN LEVELS AND CARBON Dioxide

IT STARTED OFF WITH 16.5% OXYGEN AND .38 CARBON DIOXIDE IN THE ATMPSPHERE

ANIMAL LIFE ON THE PLANET

  • The Cambrian Period (542 to 488 million years ago) was the time when most of the major groups of animals first appeared in the fossil record.
  • the Cambrian saw the appearance of mineralized algae of various types, such as the coralline red algae and the dasyclad green algae.

DOMINATE LIVE FORMS

  • Trilobites were the dominant species during the Cambrian Period, 540 to 490 million years ago. The Cambrian Period is the first geological time period of the Paleozoic Era

WHAT THE PLANET LOOKED LIKE DURING THE CAMBRIAN PEROID

MASA EXTINCTION

  • There was no mass extinction in the Cambrian period, the only reason was because there wasn't really any life on the planet.

WHERE THE CONTINENTS WHERE LOCATED

  • Tectonic evidence suggests that the single supercontinent Rodinia broke apart and by the early to mid-Cambrian there were two continents. Gondwana, near the South Pole, was a supercontinent that later formed much of the land area of modern Africa, Australia, South America, Antarctica and parts of Asia.
