Becky Johnson Atomic theory

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

john dalton

  • Researched color blindness
  • Created modern atomic theory
  • The model is supposed to show the basics of an atoms structure

erwin schrodinger

  • Erwin schrodinger was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1933 for his work an
  • Erwin's work led him to discover the electron cloud
  • Erwin built on what Bohr's ideas were
  • Electron clouds measure waves in electrons or a pair of electrons

Niels Bohr

  • Used his knowledge and the ideas of Earnest Rutherford to improve Rutherfor
  • Used Quantum theory
  • Bohr's atomic model consisted of a positive nucleus with electrons circling
  • His contribution led to different ideas of energy levels in atoms
  • "Plum pudding model"

j.j. thomson

  • Discovered electrons in atoms
  • Nobel peace prize in 1906
  • Invented the mass spectrometer
  • Electrons have positive and negative charges

ernest rutherford

  • Discovered that atoms had a nucleus, protons, electrons, and neutrons
  • The father of nuclear physics
  • Basically painted the picture of the inside of an atom

James chadwick

  • He discovered the Neutron and its importance to atoms
  • He found at the positive protons could repel the neutrons
  • He also discovered that Neutrons helped stabilize the atoms nucleaous
  • Was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1935

Democritus

  • Used Philosophy, not Science
  • Atoms were indivisible and indestructable
  • Everything is made up of atoms
