LARVA

When the egg hatches, it is not a butterfly!

They are not in this stage for long. They do a lot of eating while they are a larva.
Right away they eat believe they were born on. They grow a lot.
Their skin does not stretch. As they grow they molt. (Shed)

PUPA

When the caterpillar is done growing, they form a pupa or chrysalis. During this stage they grow their wings and develop into a butterfly.

ADULT BUTTERFLY

Once the butterfly has finished growing in the chrysalis, it breaks out. It will not be able to fly right away. It will take about three hours. It will lay eggs on a leaf to start the cycle again.
