Business Setup Services in Dubai

Published on Apr 08, 2025

Thinking about starting a business in Dubai? Great choice! Dubai is one of the best places in the world to do business. With its strong economy, modern infrastructure, and welcoming attitude towards entrepreneurs, it’s no surprise that so many people want to start their own business here.

If you're not sure where to begin, don't worry. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you get started.

  1. Choose Your Business Activity

First, you need to decide what kind of business you want to start. Dubai allows many different types of businesses – from restaurants and shops to tech startups and consulting firms. The type of business you choose will decide what kind of license you need.

  1. Pick the Right Location

Dubai has two main areas for business setup:

Mainland: You can do business anywhere in the UAE.

Free Zone: You get full ownership (100%) and benefits like tax exemptions, but usually you can only do business inside the free zone or internationally.

  1. Choose a Trade Name

Pick a name for your business that reflects what you do. Make sure it follows the rules set by the Dubai government (for example, no offensive words, and you can’t use "Dubai" in the name without permission). The name has to be approved and registered.

  1. Apply for a Business License

Based on your business type, you’ll need to apply for one of the following licenses:

Commercial – for trading businesses

Professional – for services like consultancy, education, or design

Industrial – for manufacturing or production

This step can be done through the Department of Economic Development (DED) or the relevant free zone authority.

  1. Get Your Approvals and Documents Ready

Some businesses may need extra approvals from other government departments (like food or health authorities). You’ll also need to prepare documents such as:

Passport copies

Business plan (sometimes)

Application forms

  1. Rent an Office or Workspace

Most businesses need to have a physical address in Dubai. You can rent an office or use a co-working space, depending on your budget and business type. Some free zones offer "flexi-desks" which are more affordable for startups.

  1. Open a Business Bank Account

Once your business license is ready, you can open a corporate bank account in Dubai. Different banks have different requirements, so it’s a good idea to compare your options or get help from a consultant.

  1. Start Operating!

Congratulations! Once you’ve got your license, office, and bank account set up, you’re officially ready to start running your business in Dubai.
